BABY BUNNY GROWTH
We tracked the growth of 4 baby bunnies weekly for 3 months!
Read and watch as they grow before your eyes!
Week 12
This week we have bunnies making trouble!! Smudge has managed to find his way over a fence into an area he shouldn’t be in…
I’m sad to say this will be the last week we will record the baby bunnies growth. They are now 3 months old, are eating a normal diet, and are catching up in weight to their mom. We will continue to post them on Social Media, however! Check out our links on the bottom of the page!
It has been such a pleasure sharing these babies growing up with everyone and we hope you enjoyed it too. They will be ready for adoption at the beginning of the year in February once they have been Spayed/Neutered. The last announcement we will have, not yet I’m afraid, will be what their genders are, so stay tuned for that on Facebook and Instagram.
To celebrate 3 months of happy, healthy baby bunnies we’ve included a couple of videos. Don’t worry though! We have a livestream planned for November that will show these cuties playing with some fun, new toys!
week 11
Excited fluffs of joy! That’s what these babies are this week! They are doing great, for those wondering! Smudge continues to lead the pack in enthusiasm, spunk and trouble but Harley is trying his hardest to catch up. Hazel has decided he just wants to melt whenever you pet him and loves to show off his binkies! Snowball is definitely the loner of the four but does know how to get away from you when you try to snuggle… unless you get him in just the right mood. He secretly LOVES attention but wont let you know and would never admit to it.
Week 10
Bouncing babies all around! Today the bunnies were very curious but wanted to snuggle with Joan more than they wanted to hop around.
Momma Clover went in for her spay today and has been doing good since getting back to the bunny house. If all goes well and she continues to heal she will be up for adoption by the beginning of November!
We did attempt to see if we could tell what gender Snowball is… Instead of finding an answer we just offended a little ball of white fluff. It’s still a bit early to be sure. As we get closer to 3 months we should be able to find out!
Special footage was obtained today- Hazel decided to use Joan as a punching bag. ENJOY!
week 9
They continue to get bigger and bigger, due to their baby fur they look like they are the size of Mama Clover. In reality they are at least 50% fluff!
Smudge, Harley, Hazel and Snowball have transitioned to their new diet well and doing better at keeping their fur clean… this was an issue with Hazel as he hadn’t yet learned the easiest way to eat his cecotropes.
Harley continues to be the smallest of the kits and he has become very close with Smudge, often in photos you can see them snuggling.
This week we let Mama Clover run around with her babies so you can have a size comparison! She is scheduled for her spay on Tuesday, October 20th. We will update you that day on how she is doing after surgery!
This week Smudge and Snowball are rocking some adorable Cecal Mustaches!
Week 8
We have little puffs of fluff!!! The babies continue to get bigger and fluffier as the days go by! At this point they are 50% fluff and love to get loved on, well… except Snowball. He’s still trying to figure out if he likes it yet.
Potty training is going okay, we have 2 of them doing a great job and the other two are trying, sometimes. They are eating more greens, orchard and timothy hay, and are trying to learn how best to take over the Bunny House. We’ve caught them planning domination many times recently.
We are still unsure of genders and it will probably still be quite awhile before we can be 100% sure of anything. Their bodies are continuing to develop so we still won’t know until we get closer to their maturing age.
Mama Clover is still doing well. Her diet is helping her grow a beautiful coat of fur and put on weight so we are hoping to get her in to get spayed here in the next few weeks.
week 7
This week the babies had fun with their first Facebook Live! Below are the highlights from that stream.
The kits are getting bigger and bigger! Their binkies and zoomies are faster and higher and they are learning new ways to be destructive. Smudge is giving the other 3 some new ideas on ways to cause mischief and they all seem to follow his lead.
We are beginning to get a a look at their Lionhead genes, their manes are coming in! This could go away with age but for now they are adorable with their longer neck fluff.
As they grow older they are getting introduced to new food. Currently they are fed unlimited alfalfa hay, eat alfalfa based pellets, get some greens during the day (they are huge fans of parsley) and have tried green leaf lettuce for the first time!
Here are the highlights from our Baby Bunny Livestream on 9/26/2020!
week 6
The kits are still growing and becoming more ornery! Smudge is as destructive as ever and everybun else is super excited just being out to explore a fun new place. Not much has changed since last week, though they have grown a little bit more in size.
We were expecting Mama Clover to have a second litter, if she were pregnant, over this last week and thankfully she didn’t. Now we can focus on getting her healthy and finding her a forever home once she is spayed. It’s looking like she may be going in for that in October, as long as she continues to put on weight and her body is where it needs to be.
This week the babies are no longer staying in a cage all together and have gotten their own condos! They have been doing really well separate most of the day until play time when they get out to run around together.
week 5
Here we are with little balls of fluff for you to enjoy! This is probably the most enjoyable stage of a baby bunnies life, at least for the humans involved. The kits are more social and love to receive cuddles, kisses and pets.
This week Mama Clover has almost completely weened her babies off of her milk and they are enjoying Alfalfa hay and baby bunny pellets. They have slowly started to munch on greens and are huge fans of cilantro and parsley!
A little bit about their personalities:
Hazel- A little ball of fluff that spends most of his time examining the world while he periscopes, he is all for attention and wont turn down a good cuddle. Hazel is a model and will stop everything if he sees a camera come his way and has the same go-to pose.
Harley- We are so proud of how big Harley has gotten after being the smallest in the litter! He’s definitely catching up to the rest of his siblings in size and fluff! He loves the camera as well BUT every single picture of him turns out blurry because he likes to go from pose to pose without letting the camera click… Spunky and naughty at times, he won’t let his size stop him from getting in the way.
Smudge- Smudge is 1 word- TROUBLE! He chews on EVERYTHING and ANYTHING. He’s so fast that any photo of him is… well… a smudge. This little bundle of white poofy floof loves pets and cuddles but only when he wants it. He is also the one that gives you the most trouble when it’s time to get put up from playtime.
Snowball- This little one is growing into himself. More of the loner type, that is fine sitting on the sidelines… until food comes out then he dives right in. He is one that enjoys a good snuggle puddle with his siblings and is very curious about others. An all around sweet and adorable baby… like all of them!
They are all growing up so fast! All ears have flopped at this point except for Snowball with his helicopter ears. Momma joins them twice a day for a good snack and to check to make sure Joan is taking good care of her babies.
Week 4
Lops EVERYWHERE! Almost all of the babies have ears that have flopped over some of the time- if not all. At this stage we have what many bunny owners refer to as “Helicopter Ear” bunnies- which is when the ears tend to go two opposite directions.
They are mostly eating hay at this point and have the energy of a regular rabbit… on 10 cups of coffee. They are in constant motion and have the tenancy to cause a chain reaction. If one starts zooming around and bumps into another then that one gets to going.
Harley, the smallest of the litter, is catching up in size to the rest of his litter which is wonderful news!
Because of a lack of non-blurry photos we have videos for your viewing pleasure this week!
WEEK 3
The kits are continuing to grow and become more adventurous. They are in their own area away from mom but do get feeding times throughout the day. As they begin eating hay on their own they are also not relying on moms milk as their main form of food… but that doesn’t seem to stop them from charging under mom at every opportunity to get a taste.
These next few weeks are when they start to become more curious and get into every little thing they can… So make sure you come back to see what kind of crazy shenanigans they get themselves into! Right now it looks like Hazel and Smudge are going to be TROUBLE!
Their ears are beginning to lop, showing most prominently in Smudge and some in Snowball. Get ready for some helicopter ears!
WEEK 2
These baby bunnies are growing so fast! In just a week they have began scuttling around like little toddlers, trying to get into EVERYTHING!!! Mama Clover sure has her hands full! Eyes are starting to open and the kits are exploring the area.
Names have been chosen for these adorable explorers. Harley and Hazel of course, but now we have Smudge, the white bunny with the grey smudge on his side and Snowball, the all white baby.
As the kits continue to grow it is important that each one is eating and continues to have a full tummy. These four are especially rambunctious and after having a chance to adventure in the safety of a play house they were returned to their mom wired, like a kid after having candy. Sorry Clover.
Now, enjoy some baby bunny cuteness!!!
Week 1
These babies have been at the Bunny House for a few days, being monitored by our bunny experts hourly to make sure Mama, named Clover, is still taking good care of them. Clover will feed them twice a day, every morning and night. It is important that we check them daily to make sure their little tummies are full of milk. At this age the fur is beginning to grow in and they are starting to become active in the nest, wiggling around the baby bunny pile. Baby bunnies are born with their ears and eyes closed, at this stage they are both still not open.
